It's only when full weight is back on the ground & bounce it a couple times do you see exactly what clearance ya got..
Sleeper. I hope thats not a #2 pencil. I would only put my name on a #1.

Basically I was mistaken about the proper aspect ratio, and thought that those who had gone to 245 on here were running 45 a/r. When I showed up, the guy I talked to was actually familiar with the HHR SS. He mentioned that there "could be some rubbing issues" with that size but I should be OK. When they mounted the tires, the techs came back in and said they're barely fitting, but they'll see what happens. After they put it on the ground, backed it out and turned the tires, checking for rubbing, they said I should be OK but again some minor rubbing could happen. The receipt does say "Customer aware that out fitment guide states tires might rub". Totally my fault for not checking it myself before I left, but everyone was in a hurry which is what I think contributed mostly to them just telling me what they thought I wanted to hear.

To be clear, I wasn't that ******* who showed up insisting I was right. If at any point they told me "Hey, this just isn't going to work", I would have been fine with choosing a different size. But the last thing they told me before handing me the keys was "You're good to go, it should be fine". My understanding was that under normal conditions, there could be some rubbing in turns/over bumps etc. but normal driving would be OK. But to me having the tire constantly pressed up against the strut plate doesn't equate to "some rubbing" or "might rub".

I'm going to try to squeeze it in tomorrow before work as long as they have the right size tire in stock, hopefully everything goes smoothly. I've always had pretty good experiences at Discount Tire before...just wish they were open on Sundays so I could get it taken care of today.

firemangeorge- numero uno (only) That's how I roll... LOL

Patrick- Sounds like all will work out then..

I just can't believe they let you roll home w/their term "barely fitting" tires.. That's really something..

245/40R18 are on the way, they were completely reasonable about everything. Seemed surprised the guy who wrote the order up let it happen. I'll be heading back after work to do the swap since they're coming from another store. The guy did say that the same issue could pop up with 245/40, but if people aren't having problems with that size, it'll be what I'm going with.

I found Discount Tire to be more than fair, I ordered the F-1's in 245 x 40, but they were too wide for the stock wheel, the F-1 seems to run wider than the GT, I think yours will be just right, the second try.

Discount took care of everything, no problems whatsoever. Actually ended up being about $70 cheaper too.

As for the tires, there's no rubbing under normal conditions...just barely. I was worried when I first got down to look at it and stick my hands in (yes, I made sure to check this time), but it seems like there's just enough clearance in all directions. Just ready to go out and light em up at some point now once they've broken in a bit.

Props to Discount Tire for fixing the situation hassle free, definitely kept my business.

Those are pretty sticky, you sure you can "Light them Up"........

Glad they got you squared around. They treated me like royalty too, so I have bought three sets since.

Well maybe not light em up, but there are a few corners I'm looking forward to running through soon haha.

I feel like I should call and let the service manager know that I was happy with how I was treated - they probably get tons of calls complaining about such and such but not many compliments.
