I went with Goodyear Eagle GT's...
I decided to go with Eagles GT's as my replacement tires. I had 225/55/16's put on. I had them installed this weekend and so far so good. Thanks for the recommendation.
My question is this for you tire guru's. Since they are a different size from stock what do you think the optimum tire pressure would be for best wear pattern. The max PSI is 51 pounds (from the sidewall) and I am currently running them at 42 PSI. Ride feels good, I just dont want them to wear prematurely.
As always look forward to everyones opinion.

You will have to experiment with it and observe for wear. Are they a w rating I would think 35-36 would be max. Keep an eye out for wear in the middle of the tire with 42 in there.
they aren't so much different size that the door sticker recommendation wouldn't be a good starting point.

Great tire , I ran mine at 35 psi . Super grip for about 22,000 miles . And then there worn out . rotated at 3500 miles, better than the pilot originals but lasted 50,000 miles less than the pilots, But a much more sticky tire .
Glad you like the 225 x 55 x 16's. We run 32lbs front and rear! Not sure what the HHR manual says but I know you'd have alot softer ride with less air
.
42lbs just seems a little extreme
.....
and I'm sure we'd all like some pics

Thank for the input.
I will get some pics taken when I get her washed. I changed the wheels to the 5 spoke steelies and really like the look. Now I need to find some kind of center caps to put on and some black lug nuts.
Pilots were expensive. I looked. Sears actually had a good deal on the GoodYears. If you purchased on line they were buy 3 get one free. Saved $127.
