After crunching some numbers I don't think that the 18 x 9 will fit under the HHR right. It may work but it does not mean that it is right.

I might have to go with the 17 x 8 but I have almost brand new 18" tires and Solstice wheels.

Lol, you have the stuff and your not even gonna try. If anything I would think 18's would fit better with more clearance then they did on my HHR SS, since its lowered and has Brembo calipers. The key to bigger wheel is making sure your wheel hub is hub centric to the rims your using and you have proper backspacing for clearance.

That's odd, I got bulits there too 7" wide, and they stick out from the body about an inch.

I sold rims and tires for 9 years and I have never seen or heard of a 18x9 working on a true FWD car. Yes Mustangs and Camaro have Hi offsets but they are RWD and can get away with some fitment issues. But I really don't think a 9 inch wheel with a 30 mm offset will fit or or even look right. It will stick out of the fender and be tripping people as you drive down the road. The original fitment was a 17x6.5 with a 42 mm offset and it was flush with the fender. I don't know but I don't want to spend $700.00 on something that I don't think will work in the first place.

You'd have to talk to a machine shop to have them drilled out to fit the 5 110 pattern.
