Necessary?

I was curios if it is Absolutely Necessary to put the 'Lower-Profile' tires on instead of a 'Regular' tire. I Believe the Low Profile Tires Are A Bit More Pricy, & the Regular Tires Are Less. I Don't Need New Tires Quite Yet, But I Soon Will, & was Curios About The Difference/s it may cause. I.E. Handeling, Braking, Acceloration, ect. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? I Would Appreciate some information rather than a link to go to to check it out, since I am NOT very computer literate, as I am NOT Mechanically Inclined. I KNOW I Ask You Guys Some Rather "What Should Be 'Common-Sense'" questions, BUT YOU ALWAYS SEEM TO GIVE ME THE BEST ADVICE. THANKS GUYS!!!

I remember you have an '06 LT with a 2.4, are you on 16" wheels or 17" wheels? If you're on 16" wheels you can easily go back a tire size to a 205/60/16 and gain some additional sidewall height and cushion without giving much away in handling to the stock 215/55/16. The same compromise can be reached if you're running 17" wheels by going to a 205/55/17 versus the stock 215/50/17.

You are limited to what you can do with an HHR because tires over 26" in height will hit the lower spring perch with the inner sidewall, not a good thing. You might be able to save some money by going back to a narrower tire with a taller sidewall, but you should head to a good tire shop to see all the choices available to you.
