I went with 225/50/17 Michelins for my G6 steelies...a bit taller, fills the wheelwell up more & no rubbing even with Eibach pro lowering!

I have also put on 225/50/17, but i installed them on the original wheels. I have goldlines and no issues of rubbing. I think the car rides and handles better with the 225's. 235/45 might be to wide for the stock rim. I am not sure though. I used Contenetal countitouring. I got the off a friend that has a nissan maxima so they had about 10k miles on them, they are a big improvement over the stock firestones.

General Altimax HP 215/50-17
Much better ride, quiet, great in rain and good in snow. They look good too.

I've been looking at those Generals, along with the Dunlop Sport Signatures.
Glad to hear from someone who's actually used them in the snow...Thanks!

I'm running Nexen N3000, 215/50/17, on dealer optional chrome wheels
They are summer tires but have proven to be great handling tires in dry and wet conditions. A large improvement over stock, and priced right.

If you have to deal with real cold weather and snow you might want a differant tire though. I plan to put winter tires on my stock polished rims.

How about Goodyear Eagle GT tires

I need new tires as the Firestone Firehawks need to be replaced after 52K. I an considering the Goodyear Eagle GT tires and wanted to know if anyone has these tires on an HHR.
The Firestones gave me great mileage but were loud and did not track well in wet weather.
