New wheels, lot of Vibration

I bought a new set of wheels last tuesday from Discount Stores. Bought the MB Five X Model in 16" (wanted to keep the original size of my Ls). I love the way they look but I have noticed a lot of vibration when I reach 55 until 70. The guys at the store said Thad I needed Hub centralizers. Would that stop the vibration? If not, what could be the cause? I just put a pair of Kuhmo super X tires two weeks ago in the front.
By the way, waiting this weekend to get my wing and have it installed.

Hub centrics could be the fix. Are you saying that you bought new rims but used your old tires? If so it could be from the old tires or there might be an actual balance issue in one of your wheels. Even if it is not the hub centrics you should get those on there sooner then later. They help to center the wheels properly and easier then leting the lug nuts do it.

If your problem persists, try having the wheels balanced on a "Road Force" balancer.. That is a serious machine..

welcome to the site Edgardop73. Sounds like a balance issue. The epa has removed lead from the weights, since then it takes more of them and they can fly off...making that perfect balance , not perfect any more. Good luck.

to the forum edgardop73!

If hub centric adapters are needed for those rims, the store messed up in not telling you and not insisting that you use them when the wheels were installed.

As has been pointed out already, balance could be an issue, whether or not the tires are new or used. Have the balancing redone after you have the hub centric adapters installed and you should be vibration free.

When you put the new wheels on did you remove the star washers? These retain the drums/rotors from the factory and will interfere with after market wheels.....

Looks like im sticking with tirereack. They automatically include centering rings with every wheel that needs it

Thank you all for your responses, I was never told I needed Hub centric adapters by the store, also they installed them so I dont know if they removed the washers. They balanced the wheels twice, so balance is not an issue. I will call thenm today because Ive been waisting a lot of gas using my other car (1990 Lincoln Town Car). By the way....how do I post a picture?

nobody has mentioned a few other possibilities for the root cause - you could be looking at defective tires (bad belts, out of round etc.) - bad mounting (bead not seated properly) - defective wheels (not true, out-of-round, machineing of stud and center mounting holes off-center) etc. etc.

Probably best to follow the tire stores advice and let them figure out the solution. And have them check for those star washers that Greybeard999 refers to - they have been a problem for a number of people, when the wheels do not have a relief built into them.

Best of luck - Keep us posted on the finding :)

ps: I've run my winter wheels/tires on different vehicles, with and without the hub centric rings and have never had a problem either way but would be interested in hearing the results of the trying of the rings on yours.
