Question Painting emblem on wheel cap, 17' stock chrome

I was considering painting the gold chevy emblem on my 17' wheels black to match the paint on my 2006 HHR. What would be the best way to do this. I have minimal experience with painting. Just tape it off and use a gloss black and clear coat? Thanks for helping out.

That's one way.... (you left out making sure the surface is clean first)

A lot of guys have used vinyl overlays, instead of paint.

I would go with the overlays. Probably would cost the same or less than the materials you would need to paint. And if you dont like it, you can just take them off.

I obtained these from flamingdecals.com. You can e-mail them and get almost any color vinyl that you want. Would probably be a close match to the paint color. I went for the SS logo, but that's optional..

Thanks everybody.

87silver: I went to the website and emailed them. I think that is the most simple route to go and they look good.

Hey Jeff, did you do that yourself? Looks awesome! I've been thinking of doing the same thing, with the colors reversed (red bowtie and black cap).

I went a different route. I polished the gold-tone bow-tie off my 17"s

Yes, I painted them. Masking was a bit tedious, but I really don't like the vinyl stickers. I have one on my front bowtie, and it is slated for removal and paint similar to the rear one. (if it effing ever stops raining) I'm also in the thinking about it stage of painting badges.
