I'm Blacking out my 07 1LT. It has the stock aluminum 5 spokes. I'm undecided about whether I should paint these wheels or buy new ones and sell the stock rims. If I do paint these wheels, I've been told you need to go over the wheels with some kind of acid to make the paint stick. I've heard vinegar will work. Any ideas or suggestions?

 

If you put vinegar on your rims, nothing will stick to them. You want to scuff them up with sandpaper then wash them down. then if you want a real good adhesion you want to wipe them down with a wax and grease remover before priming them

 

Your wheels are clear coated... so you can treat them like any painted surface. Now if they were bare polished aluminum, different story.

 

Thanks. Is there much of a market for used stock wheels? If I knew I could sell these, I'd just sell and buy new rims.

 

I bought a set of Stock LS Steel rims and am going to paint them.

 

Sure theres a market, you could charge half the price of new ones from a dealer and still make a bundle.
Try a post on here first, then maybe kijiji or ebay.
