Yup the answer is don't use wheel cleaner in the first place. Just wash and wax like the paint. Hopefully it can buff out.

I have used Wesley white wall cleaner for my silver steel rims on my 97 Dodge truck. It also leaves a white haze. Car wax removes it but it returns when I scrub the white letters on my wheels. Just have to accept it

Wesley's is great for white letters. Just do the tire, then wash the wheel. It will get rid of that haze.

Wheel cleaners are harsh and abrasive. You really should follow the instructions really closely. Some say leave on 10 min before wiping and rinsing, some only 5 min, and some even less. If left on too long, will eat away at the clear coat and can even start to eat at the chrome.
