Stock 16" wheel prices

Are insane.

Detroit craigslist prices seem to run about $100 each for what is in reality a fairly weak wheel. I can get new aftermarket 16's for $89 each.

Is this a nationwide trend or just something around Detroit?

That's about what it is here in co, I sold my stock ones with the stock tires for 400. And the guy thought he got a hell of a deal.

Theres a setof 16's in spring lake mi, for sale under the grand rapids craigslist for 150. I don't know if there alloy or not but it says there powder coated silver.

OEM wheels will almost always fetch more money that an aftermarket of the same size. Junk yards by me want 100 for the 16s and 120 for the 17s.

What makes you say it is a weak wheel? Do you have any data to support this?

Same here in the Houston area. I have been looking for the steel 5 spokes but it will be cheaper to buy aftermarket alloys.

If he means it in the context we use it in California, weak = lame/uncool.

Was in Tire Rack last weekend buying tires for another vehicle when a retired auto mechanic (also buying tires) went on a rant to me about the cheap steel rims prone to bending that Chevrolet chose to use on the Cobalt and HHR. Apparently his daughter's steel rims had not faired well to encounters with Chicago chuck holes the past year. Looking at the low sidewall profile on my own 16" wheels and factoring in the light steel (when compared to rims of the past), I can see where some might claim this rim to be cheaply made.

Is the steel wheel located under steel wheel tab on this page http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/resul...el+Sport+Wagon offered by Tire Rack not identical to OEM for $56 ?

Bingo on the weakness of the wheel. I have the '5 spoke' steel wheel, and those seem to go at a premium.

When I bought my HHR new, I bought the insurance on the wheels and tires for a few hundred dollars.

In the last 4 years I have had 2 complete sets of wheels replaced (not all at the same time) under the policy, it expired and I cannot renew.

These do seem to bend far easier than any other steel wheel I've had. It's really the only complaint I have about the car.

I'm used to paying $10 to $15 each for stock wheels that usually have hubcaps on them.
