Time for new tires.....
Time for new tires.....
I'm coming up on 40k miles and the stock treads are getting a little thin. So I have been searching for tires for my '06 LT2.
I have to admit I'm suffering a bit of sticker shock. I have always been able to replace tires on my previous cars with BF Goodrich touring TA's. Great tire at a great price. Not so with these low profile 17"ers on the HHR. Even the "no name" tires are expensive.
What have you guys been putting on your cars and how much have you paid?
What type of results did you see with the tire swap?
I'm looking for info on ride quality, tire noise, fuel mileage changes, traction in all weather conditions, and tire wear.
Thanks for sharing.

Right now check with the Tire Rack and check on Assurance Triple Treads. They have a good price on these and Goodyear has a $40 rebate going on these tires too. It will pay for the shipping and no sales tax if your not in a state they ship from.
The Assurance Triples are good all around use tire and while not as cheap as some they will get more miles than most others.
I am using them for my winter tires and they have been great. I also have used them for several years on the wife GTP in 17" and they have been great year round.
No matter your choice use the Tire rack as they will save you$$$$.

I just put a set of Goodyear Eagle GTs on our car.

I liked the reviews and treadwear of the Triple Treads but I really wanted an asymmetric tread pattern. The Eagle GT tires look nice and are wider than the stock tires to protect the rims (too late for my wheels
) They were $110 each with a $25 rebate at the time. A UHP tire really is overkill on these cars but the size doesn't give many options.

I second the vote for www.discounttiredirect.com They have free shipping! I have bought from them twice and both times I was very pleased.
Discount tires direct seems to have the best prices right now. Free shipping doesn't hurt a bit either! Now it's just a matter of saving my pennies for a bit.
Thanks for the resources!

I just put a set of the Assurance Triple Treads on order through a friend that owns a Alignment Break Center shop. Going to get an alignment and the back brakes checked also..
Will get it all done on my next trip or sooner. most likely next week now.

I was fortunate enough to get 95,683 miles out of my stock Firestone's (not saying they had much tread left), and just purchased a new set of BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S from Tire Rack. Discount tire direct may offer free shipping, however their tire prices are higher. At the end of the day it was less expensive to order from Tire Rack and due to location I received them in one day.
My car is lowered 2.25" in the front and 2.75" in the rear with springs that I had made. It rides fair to say the least, however I have been running lowered Bugs with narrowed beams and without shocks in the fronts since the early 80's so it does not effect me. These new BF Goodrich's ride great and handle well considering the setup. I cannot wait until winter to see how they perform as this was a huge downfall of the OEM Firestones.
