Tire Size

My 2007 LT came with 215/55R16 tires. Is it possible to put a larger tire on the stock wheel, and if so what are the size limitations. Does Chevrolet/GM endorse a larger tire size for the stock wheel on this car? I would think going to a 225/55R/16 would be ok despite the 1+% speedometer error.

That size is just fine. You could go one inch taller without any problems. Here's something to think about: There is around 13/32's of a inch tread on the top and the same amount of tread on the bottom (depending on mfg). That's a total of 26/32's, more that 3/4" of tread at new and 3/4" less when the tire is worn out. The speedometer doesn't know how new your tires are so there is always some amount of difference, unless the cars computer has an ability to adjust. So up sizing one size would accually keep the average closer to the original size as the tire wears. I would say one could always go larger, but should carefully and cautiously go shorter.

My came stock with 215/50/17, I definately am going up to 225/50/17, & a different brand as well. That ought to do me just fine..

There are so many members here running bigger tires, some LOTS bigger..

I wanted to put Michelin Hydro Edge tires on, but they do not make a 225/55/16, so I am considering a 215/60/16 now, or I may go with the Michelin Pilot, which does come in a 225/55/16. Still have some time left with the Firestones that came on it originally, so its not an immediate issue.

I think the Goodyear Assurance Tripletred comes with 13/32". However, tread depth doesn't always denote quality or longevity. Where you live the tripletred would be the ticket.

Thanks for your advice.....Appreciate it.

GoodYear Assurance Triple Tread
225/50R17

11/32" fact ALL the GY Triple Treads listed have 11/32 tread.

Only tires I remember having 13/32 may be truck tires, or Snow Tires.
