TPMS pressure

If the HHR is set to 35 psi on the door sticker and you have tires recommended to be set at 32 psi will the BCM be looking for 35 psi? and will the low air pressure light come on if the tires drop to 30 psi?

Hi Steve,

The answer is YES it will trigger a dash light tire warning @ approx. 29 lbs. on mine.
I put stock 16" wheels on my 2LT and wanted the slightly softer ride so I have set tires @ 30lbs cold and it does trigger when it get cold enough.

The "tire placard" on the door sill is a copy of the data entered into the BCM at the factory. It can be changed though.

Ok, thank you for confirming, Silverfox and Donbrew.
Donbrew , how can the BCM tire pressure be changed? Scan tool and reprogram?

Steve,

If you an change the factory setting that would be a great way to fix the issue but why not just try 30 lbs. summer and 32 lbs. winter.
You can always re-adjust without a hassle as long as you know what the rules of the game are.
I live in a moderate climate here on the West Coast 25 Degree winter max and 82 summer max average.
I have nitrogen in my tires and just hit Costco if I need and adjustment.
I have them go high @ 35lb. and then I can just let them down myself to where I want them set when the tires are cold for that day.

I go by the TPMS display to set them so I do not have to gauge each tire to monitor what's going on.
I have found that my gauge is very close to those TPMS display readings.

My idea was to go with 32 psi as the SS tire pressure is suggested. It’s an experiment now!

The tire specs I.E.: speed rating, size. plies, sidewall comp etc. determine the max inflation. I assume that cars that say 35 PSI on the placard also specify a tire from the factory that has a 35 PSI max. One of the reasons the tire weasel wants to look at your tires before he sells you new ones.

I would not advise running tires that have a 32 PSI max on the sidewall on a car that wants 35 PSI on the placard. That probably is part of the speed rating. The danger is that the bead might blow off the rim, I have seem broken beads on tires; even had one try to decapitate me whilst mounting on a machine.

I don't see a recommended pressure on those spec sheets.

Yes, just max psi
this is the same as my 2LT door placard, 35 psi

and per FMG and many others in many threads about tire pressure the SS should be at 32 psi, which I set my 18’s to, but with the temperatures here in the last couple of days , 31 yesterday morning and nearly 60 today.
