Whats your Winter Wheel Set-up?

I need to get some Winter Tire's for my HHR. These Stock Tires Flat out Stink in the Snow.

I know some using the Michelin X-Ice or the Blizzak, however i really don't have the money nor want to spend 800+ on just Winter Steelies.

What other Combo's are ya'll running in the Snowy weather?

This week I got a set from tirerack. 16" General Altimax Arctic tires and an alloy wheel they have on sale. Wheel $69/Tire $65. $626 shipped to my door. Hard to beat and they look nice too. I had a great test on them last night and I'm very pleased.

i'm in the same boat, don't really want to spend even $626 for winter tires...

See if anyone had steelies they wanted to get rid of, and you could cut your cost down.

I'm toughing it out this winter, it's a bit more mild than last year, and then i'll replace them with a better all season when i have the money.

I've never had a dedicated winter tires and that was living in Michigan and driving a sunbird convertible, lebarron convertible, and 2 GMC jimmys, only with with 4wd. So i think just a good all season and some skill is the setup i like. I've driven through a foot of snow with the sunbird before and both my parents, half my friends, and my inlaws all live on dirt roads that don't get plowed...

If you have to go with a one tire does all I have the Goodyear Triple Tread Assurance tires.

They have not even come close to failing me including the 10 Inches of snow we got this week end.

I have them also on a 04 GTP neither my wife nor I have had any dramatic moments as we see other not going anywhere.

Check the tire rack as they has 215-60-16's for $102 and then had a $40 rebate on top of that.

These tires are also great in rain and slush and are rated at 70,000 miles. The last set on the GTP with my wife driving it hard got near 50,000 miles when the stock Comp TA radials did not last half that.

This combo on your stock wheels would come in around $400 or less depending on the rebates and what they are now.

You can run them year round and not have to change them out.

All All Season tires are not equal these really work.

Just picked up a set of those real cheap how is the traction in the summer on dry roads.I put away my HHR for the winter so it will be 5 more months before I can try them out.My stock Flintstones have no bite on a 2,000 rpm lanch I can keep them spinning for 100ft if I don`t let off.

Yea, I'm not sure if i want to have a Winter Setup and a Summer Setup. The HHR is only 8 Months old with 5200 Mile's on it. I feel like if i Changed them to a better all Season Tire i would be wasting money. Not sure which way i am going to go yet.

same way i though, so i'm trying to stick it out for a bit, just over 6000 on mine.

The ones i was looking at were the "BF Goodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S". Did a lot of research on them and it seemed to be a great tire. Their testing Facility is up at Michigan tech in the Keewana Penn. Not too many better test sites for winter driving then up there, their weather is insane. 2 feet overnight isn't uncommon.

Summer is fine as wet traction is excellent.

Tide is good handling is very good for a all season tire.

There are better tires for performance All Season tires like the Eagle Responce Edge that will give even better handling and dry traction.

The Firestones are just a very poor cheap OE tire. It is as poor a tire as you will find. I had a similar Firestone as a OE tire on another car and I took them off with in six months as the wife hated them in the rain. I did not want to think about snow with them.
