Wheel-Tire upgrade

I currently have stock 16" on my '08 1LT and want to get some Eagle Alloys Series 192 wheels (I love the old Crager look), and go up to a 17" rim. I found a good tire size calculator at discounttire .com (http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos) and found that the closest 17" tire that matches the stock circumference is a 235/45-17. Question to y'all is; Has anyone on the forum installed this size tire on their HHR? I'm pretty sure the tire will fit the rim no problem but I'm concerned about the width being a little too much under the fenders. If anyone has put this size on, let me know. Thanks...

Also what is your opinion; wider or taller tires? Just curious....

And here is a link to the Eagles I like...

215 50 17 is the factory original size for the 17" wheel, but the 235 45 17 is a plus size that should work. Many guys have put 235 40 18 on (235mm wide) and had no problems.

Cool....that's the answer I was looking for. I haven't done any mods to it yet, but hope to this summer, if the wife will let me.

Thanks...

I ran the 235x 45x17 for a short time on 17x7 wheels and had no problems.

A 45 series will give more tire gap though since it's lower profile. I'd use a 50 for 17's, and 45 for 18's, especially if you're not lowered.

I've run 235/45-17 with no problem. Currently have 245/45-17 and no problem. Stay away from Eagle alloys. Some of the worst quality alloy wheels on the market. That picture of the rim is a picture of a "Chrome" wheel, the wheel they are offering is a "polished" wheel and does not look near as good. Spend a few dollars more and go with American Racing or something better. www.americanracing.com.

Are the wheels just crap or is it just that they don't offer the chrome? I think I can get them at another site. I just need to know if they are a bad wheel to stay away.

I just took a look at the American Racing site and can't really find a wheel that fits and still looks like the old Cragers...unless I didn't look in the right spot. I might look at the Euros (612) mentioned on the site, though I'm not too hip on the look of the spokes. I like them to have a flat face look and not the pointed look on the face. Oh well I still have time.

Also have any of ya'll recaliberated the speedo after changing the tire size? I'm not keen on that and that is what drew me to the 235/45-17. That plus size appears to be the closest overall size to the 215/55-16 on mine now. And I like the wider profile. More grip on the pavement....Wider is better...lol.

Thanks for the help. Later.....

Why Not Do-It-Right the first time and Go with the Solstice 18"s ? If it's Flat Spokes you like then they don't get much Flater than these !
