If you do the calculators the 40 series seems the closet so I would think the 45's are the incorrect ones.
current size 215/55/16 = 25.3
225/40/18 = 25.1
225/45/18 = 26.0
Looks like the 40 series is closer and fixes my issue much easier then paying to have it reprogramed or opening it up and adjusting the needles.

You could even consider a 215/45-18..... The other thing is with our 225/45's I can tell you that there has been a couple of times were the larger side wall has protected the rim lip from curb rash! The lower profiles seem to have less rim protection!

Since your wheel is 7.5, I can tell you that a Michelin pilot sport as fits in the 235x45x18 size, I would have bet that it wouldn't, but it did, 08banshee put a set on his SS, He loves them.

Mrs. - I looked at that size first and there are more options in the 225 sizes then the 215 with more variety in the lower cost region. I want to keep upkeep costs lower if possible and that is one place I see a significant differences. Also I like the 40's better because I prefer a lower profile tire. But I do have to agree that the 45's would protect the lip better. Good thing I am anal about hitting curbs and such. Anyways the tire size is not in question and is set pretty much in stone lol but I do think that I will go with the 40mm offset ones to be safer. The 40's might leave room for a 1/2" to 3/4" drop too. That would help the gap issue.
