Why do you want to ruin the looks of your car?

This is a little bit of rambling, so please forgive me.

How many of you have heard that from your spouse or significient other? Saturday I cleaned my HHR. I took the hubcaps off to clean the wheels really good and it reminded me of my car days around 40 years ago. I would spend Saturday morning cleaning my car to have it ready to cruise on Saturday night. One of the looks then was to run your car without the hubcaps. When I looked at my HHR, I remembered all the fun times I had with my cars and my buddys working on them. I sat in the shade with a smoke and a cool drink and remembered so many things that I almost thought I had gone 40 years in the past. I decided to leave the hubcaps off for a few days just for the "mean" look it gives the car. Then my wife came out and said, "Why do you want to ruin the looks of your car?". I was still thinking of me and my buddies and how much fun we used to have and how few worries and problems we had then. I looked and her and recalled the famous guote on Car Crazy, "If you have to ask, you'll never understand." The hubcaps are still off, and I smile everytime I look at my car. Some of my buddies have passed on now, but I still think about the fun we had. How soon the years pass by, and how amazing one little action can remind us of things we had almost forgotten.
Here's to my friends, present and past

I get that every time I do something to my HHR. My wife is a very leave the car stock kind of person. I also get, "You should be working on the house rather than your car!" whenever I do something to my HHR.

Some women just don't understand that sort of thing, as we tend to live in today and leave much of the past behind. I know I did much of that until I bought the HHR...and then a part of me emerged that has been buried for many years. Be bold...do something different and fun. Thank you Chevrolet for bringing out a side of me I haven't seen for years and allowing me to do some of the things I did 30+ years ago.

Is it really that or, the more a man spends on his car, the less the woman has to spend. One comment about the leave the past behind - since when did a woman EVER forget something a man did in the past that ticked her off??? Most men don't understand all the makeup and prep work a woman does to get ready to go somewhere. Well, this is a man's makeup and prep work, only on a car, not his body!!!

When I typed my response, I was very careful how I worded things. If you look back at what I said about leaving the past behind, I said "MUCH of the past" not ALL. And it's not only women who don't forget what a man did in the past...that's a two way street. And any man who expects his woman to understand what he does to makeup his car...should also understand the ladies makeup up thing.

At first, my boyfriend Henry did not understand me doing mods to the HHR. He said..."that's a brand new car...why are you messing with it?" To which I responded, "because I can." As the mods progressed, he has enjoyed what I have been doing and no longer questions my decisions. There is nothing wrong with a woman enjoying doing some of the same things a man does, such as doing mods to a car.

There are only a handful of ladies on this forum who speak out on a regular basis. Besides myself, the most vocal one would be SindyDix and we share the same passion as all you guys do when it comes to modding our HHR's.

In case you don't get where I'm coming from...I'm on your side guys.

Any changes I make to my cars, to me, makes me stand out in the crowd. I don't want to drive a run of the mill ride. I want people to look and say "look at that car!"

As I am one of the other women here.... I love spending money on my car.

So you agree that women "sometimes" don't let a man forget about something in the past??? I'll have to admit I skipped past the "much of the past" and saw "past" which seemed like an odd thing for a woman to write.

I can appreciate a woman wanting to work on a car, and being able to do it, is even better.

Did I hit a nerve????

I am glad that there are women here that understand and enjoy working on their cars. It makes it easier for anyone when we can explain that to our wives/girlfriends/lovers/friends. If it were not for the information on this board, I and a lot of other people would not have been able to successfully do some of the things we have done or meet such a great group of people who share the same passion. So if this ticked you off, please let this be one of those things that you allow to be forgotten in the past!!!!!!!!
