GM Ignition Recall Extended to All HHR's 2006-2011 UPDATED!!!

That is true, they are also replacing all of the newer models because Delphi in their infinite wisdom fixed the part but never revised the part number. So GM and dealerships would have absolutely no idea if the part they were using was old and broken, or new and fixed.
Thus many of the 08-11's could have a broken part right from the factory as well, though not as likely.

Yeah, I hated always changing part numbers just because of some little change (and so did suppliers and GM plants), but this is why. If this had been done, there would be better definition on which vehicles were affected and which were not. Kind of a mess now...

I was just on E-bay you know shopping for cool things HHR in this case oil filters, nice deal 6 AC Delco's for $23.00 well while scanning the pages, these locksmiths keep popping up with offers of ignition cylinders and keys to fix your HHR, now I would advise strongly do not purchase from these sellers as #1 where did they get the new part if GM hasn't got them yet! and #2 these sellers are depending on your fears to make the sale and that is not a good way to ensure a problem is repaired properly, plus you would need to go to the dealer to reprogram the new keys.

Boy thats crapy. Both Blues are right DO NOT BUY any IGN switches as they can only be the old ones and someone should tell Ebay whats happening. ANYONE selling the old IGN switches should be arested. We at the dealers don't have the new part numbered switches as yet and no one else should eather. PLEASE YOU DONT need to buy an IGN switch even if your car was a total and repaired or any other reason YOR CAR IS under the recall and no charge to you to have repaired.

Please no one try and fix this themselves, first off you could actually void the work being done for free as aftermarket and self install parts are usually big no no's for dealerships. Second these Ebayers are probably "dumpster diving" as all the dealerships are dumping their old switches and trying to make money on your misfortune.

This article indicates that GM knew of this problem as early as 2006 or 2007:

Didn't someone here in one of these threads... Mention at some point they switched from a key with a slotted hole. To a key with a small round centered hole. So the weight of the key ring would have less ability to twist the key.
My '11 has the little round hole in the key.
If that is true, seems like they knew then for sure.
