I have a 2007 LS with a 2.2 liter motor. The car currently has 31, 000 miles on it. Next year I am going to have the chevy dealer drain, flush and refill the cooling system. Should the thermostat be replaced at that time too?

Kind of a judgment call Rick, you can err on the side of caution and change it out, won't hurt anything. Or you can leave it be unless you're having problems with it. Depends on whether you're a glass half full or glass half empty sort of person. By the time my '07 hits its fifth birthday I'll be looking at 100k on the clock, so the thermostat will be changed out during the flush and fill.

I got a brother that runs his own shop, has been a Ford Tech for years and knows a thing or 2 and I run on the cautious side of doing things and will do work twice so as long as I know its been done.

I asked about my 2000 Buick Century with just over 76k on the Clock. I had done a completely Fluid/Filter overhaul. One of the jobs was to change the coolant. I asked about flushing and where we were (at home with a lift) we did not have the recepticals to catch all the crap as we need to flush out a lot compared to a drain and fill. Well my question came to about the Thermo and his opinion was if the car was not giving me an issue or the coolant temp was not going up and down all the time, then to leave it alone.

During the service he did discover a leak and turns out the weep holes in the Waterpump were leaking and I had not noticed it before hand.

if you are doing this next year thats five years I would change it, you can get a better flush with the stat removed. that is if the tech take the time to do it that way.

A Sort of an update, after having good pressure for a few weeks the T Stat is now acting up, how a typical. In the past I have had a few symptoms now that I think about it. But I would have rather done this job before having do a coolant swap.

A little aggrivating.
