There are some minor mods you can make to the inlet to the box to smooth out the airflow, but doubt that you would see a measurable difference on the dyno.
I always love the guys who do the Home Depot intakes. Some get lucky and some just fool themselves.

Some kit I sell at work are just a step over the Home Depot and one I would rather have the Home Depot version over it. THe sad part is these are not always the cheap kits.

I will not say K&N has not had an oil problem. It does happen but it is rare. Most times [note I did not say all] it is self inflicted b the owner over oiling.

Often the electrical part can be cleaned and put back on without replacment. Some systems just have MAP and Mass Air sensors that are too close to the filter but most are far enough away that they have no effect.

I have had several filters and intake systems from K&N and nary an issue. The filters I have never seen much impovment so other than cleaning them I see little gain. But on the intake systems I have really felt the real gain. The last one on my Sonoma was only 9 HP but after 3000-5000 RPM it really woke up the 4.3. I also picked up a real world 1 MPG.

The stock intake sytem on the Sonoma is a real mess and the restrictions were great. I may put one on the GTP as it offers 16 HP improvment. Yes the GTP system is that restricted.

Then you get the Joke's like Tornado's and other snake oil kits. All I can say is walk away fast.

I am going to do the same in 6 months. Who is doing yours? I have been looking on the colbalt forums and I have not found anyone that has put the gt 30 on with any luck. They say that there is fuel problem at 400 hp.
