The next morning I was gonna drive it straight to the dealer...happened on a Sunday...car would not idle....air/fuel trims were totally screwed up so I had it towed to the dealer and they ordered and installed a new pipe.

The stock piping is prone to cracking/breaking under the harsher conditions that the increased boost pressures give. The stock intercooler also has plastic endcaps which are subject to the same. Both will get the job done and many choose for something to go wrong before they replace them. I ran my stock ones for a long time.
oh alright so you are putting out quite a lot of boost, im still at my stock 15psi, was it covered under warranty? mine should be fine if im still at stock pressure

Lemme know when you are selling your SS so I can stay away from it. Doesn't appear to be normal use with results like this (more like beating the ever living piss out of the thing). The HHR SS is by no means a "supercar". Ever hear of something called ZR1? May be a better solution if you need performance without problems relating to an economy "sport" SUV. Everything has its limits; you just have to understand the contexts that each falls into. I feel sorry for this machine...

I'm putting the car back stock, I'm thinking about trading it in, but I can't make me mind up. Let me know if you have any questions about the kit.

ATLsilverSS - I saw where the posted about my kit, thanks again for your help.

I never tuned mine after installing the kit. Mine already had the stage kit before I bought my car. When I put the kit on the car it was a big noticeable difference in power, but the computer started relearning some things, so a tune would be the way to go.

What????? There have been plenty of people that blew there factory stock platsic UICP on LNF engines, usually its when its colder out.

Because you don't see it posted here much doesn't mean its not happening. The pipe blowing apart has been documented more frequently on the Cobalt SS forums, this forum is a drop in the bucket compared to active members over there.

Thus more accounts of broken stock UICP and intercoolers along with other issues on the LNF engine. It would be the equivalent to having a larger sample size in an experiment, more samples more results.

I haven't found the limits to my HHR SS yet and I'm one of the most heavily modified HHR SS's that are active on forums.
Its all in modding your car right and not doing a half ass job of it.

You'd be better off with PVC pipe over the thin walled heat-welded plastic crap our cars came with..... and don't get me started about the shape.

hell mine was sold with a cracked ic pipe lol. congrats newguy. imo charged piping should be the first priority. if yours crack, waiting on stock replacements may take awhile as the car isn't produced anymore. next i was go with a tune. i have a trifecta and love it. next go for your exhaust. 3inch dp no cats (unless you are in cali) then if you have the money, a more stout clutch will be needed because your stocker will start to slip. or you can go with the bigger ic. before you go past 22 psi upgrade the clutch. my current mods put me at 342 to the ground on the stock turbo. have fun!!
