I had the dealership where I bought my car do about the same. They didn't even care to look it up for me. I told them all the details and said this isn't some kind of rumor, I want the upgrade. They him-hawd and I said nevermind I'll go elsewhere, thanks for nothing. Called another well known dealer and they jumped on it, even giving me a discount. Ordered the parts without a cc# and got me in right away for install. Ended up being their mule but they were straight and honest with me. Most of them had never even seen an SS in person yet. They've now acquired my full business including service and I told them that, they were thrilled to get a new customer in todays economy. Also on the tune I'm quite happy, had it been available off the bat I'd have had it added before initial pick-up. Can't wait to test it against my buddies SRT-4 Neon!

Wow... In a way I am glad I am not the only one that had dealership trouble. The dealership where I bought my car (and my previous 2 cars) from seemed unwilling to order the part. I took extra effort to have the part number handy and even had print outs of the install instructions to show them. The furthest they went was to call GM for availability and when they saw Backorder on the screen all I could get out of them was sorry. I called 5 other dealerships close to me and I ended up driving an hour and a half to a dealership that also runs a performance part depot to have it installed. They ordered the kit and it came in 5 days later and they happily installed it for me. It was worth the drive.

I did make it a point to contact the service manager and my sales dealership owner about my frustration with the service personel and they apologized and asked what they could do to make it up to me. I am not looking to get anything for free, but I do expect good service as I do not consider myself a demanding customer. I thought about registering a complaint with GM headquarters but decided against it.

Good Luck to everyone trying to get their HHR staged.

I'm having the same problem with an unwilling dealership. They wouldn't order me the part, so I got it online. Now I have the part and can not find a dealership willing to do the install in Allentown, PA.

I had the same problem, just ended up calling all the local dealers until i found 1 that would do it and give me a set price for the install. I paid $275, but it was flat rate no matter how long it took them, and it was guaranteed, so I was willing to pay it.

I just called Chevy customer service as suggested and they convinced the dealer to do the install, as long as it was purchased from a Chevrolet Dealership.

The nearest GM Performance Parts Dealer is 26 miles away. You could try them. GMPP dealers have techs that specialize in installing GMPP stuff.

I'm looking long and hard at this upgrade for my SS. Through my recent research, I'm finding that the dealerships who cannot give you a fixed price for the install probably have not done it.

Face it, this is not a diagnose/repair, but an installation proceedure. I found a GMPP dealer who will do the complete job, parts and labor for $792 (in writing). It's not a bargain, but it's a good insurance policy knowing that there won't be any labor "runaway" issues or that I won't know how long they will keep my SS while trying to "learn" on it.
