The Where... we have an exhaust guy that we completely trust here in town.

How Much Does It Cost? I can tell you my cut out was around $200 +/- $50

Plus and Minus... Have you ever run a vehicle open headers? There's the plus. The minus, haven't really figured that one out.

DMH has a great warranty, 4yrs no questions asked if my memory serves my right.

How about warranty, I assume this would pretty much annihilate that? lol I had a header, exhaust - resonators, supercharger, water/methanol injection, etc on my Vibe, but a lot of this turbo stuff is new to me. I don't really know the "flow" of a turbo system, where things like this fit in, how it affects the system, etc...

The cutout helps the turbo get the exhaust out alot quicker, thus forcing more air into the intake and making more horsepower, would be my redneck definition.

*edit*
Our limiting factor, I have read, is the turbo itself.

The one that I have on my Silverado is 4yr wty, and I don't think this one will be a far cry from that.

Electronic cutouts in general are generic parts that can be installed anywhere in your exhaust system to bypass anything. You can install them pre-cat, pre muffler, whatever. You can allow them to dump open, put turn downs after, make them re-route past the obstruction back into your exhaust... whatever you want to do.

The benefits are pretty much the same as running open dump on a turbo car; faster spool and increased top end. The difference is that you can quiet it down and make it street legal on command. The negatives are that it will probably throw a code unless you program around it as she suggested and that e-cutouts in general will wear out long term and are prone to leakage. Replacement parts are usually readily available, and the good ones like DMH usually come with warranties.

This isn't a turbo specific part. They're just as common on NA cars. It's the same as running open headers.

It depends on where you put it. If you put it on a catless downpipe, probably, but you could put the stocker back on before you take it in. The warranty issue may be with the programming you'd have to do.

damronjr, since your avatar says your in California, know that this mod is illegal under any circumstances for on-road use, even while completely closed. And, unlike some other exhaust mods, this one is pretty hard to hide when the CHP pulls you over and peeks under the car. Don't let that stop you if you're committed... but be aware of this reality before you invest in it.

Good point. I forget that there are people on this board who are oppressed by their local governments.

Yeah, pretty much everything is illegal here in CA! I am originally from Dallas, so as I was here in the military, I kept my Vibe plated in TX so I didn't have to worry about any of that (not to mention the registration was 1/3 or less than CA!), but now that I have been out for a couple of years and I bought the HHR here I had to plate it here, so yeah, I will be stuck complying with all their BS rules now.

That's a bit dramatic.

Even if you're visiting, your car has to comply with fedregs, and it's against the law to tamper with the emissions system on any passenger vehicle. Turning off the o2 sensors to avoid a CEL qualifies. Again... if that's what you want to do, enjoy. Just know what you're signing up for.
