Is FULL exhaust needed for HP increase or just the DP?

As most know, i am wanting to buy full exhaust but am not sure if the 3" catback (no resonators just straight through muffler) is needed for horsepower increase additionally with the 3" DP i'm buying first. I'm going with the ADM 3" catback which is made by SW and SW still sells too.

Thanks!

Boosted, from what I've read and heard, the biggest gain you will see(exhaust wise) will be from the DP. Our stock exhaust is a pretty good flowing exhaust from the major opinion on the forums.

the less restrictions on a boosted car,the better. with that being said,a catless dp is the way to go,unless u live somewhere that do visual checks for inspection, like california. after that i would just go 3inch all the way back. on mine,it's a nice subtle, but deep growel that's not raspy or sound loud and ridiculous.

the gentleman I bought my system from (fellow member) said when he had it on his SS, it dyno'd 20hp less with the stock DP (iirc).

I'm running the same system as mightymouse... has a great sound when you lay into it not raspy or ricey. At idol IMO its not much louder then stock, but sounds a helluva lot better

So do you guys think i should go catted 3" DP with 3" exhaust or just the 3" DP? My state does inspections every 2 years and i they look at it so that's why i'm stuck with catted.

Moneys not the problem, It's just i'm trying to make a decision on what's going to add HP instead of just noise lol

Since money's not a problem get the whole system done in 1 shot, even better if you can install it yourself. Since you're like me and have to go through inspections biannually just get the catted DP and be done with it. If you want to go through swapping out DP's every two years for 1 day of inspections then go for the catless one. Otherwise catted DP FTW and ease of (legal) mind. My opinion is not law, but I try to help wherever I can.

you'll only gain a few whp with the catback. the downpipe is where the gains are. I definatly wouldn't spend the money if your not tuned. the downpipe will only help a little bit if not tuned but the exhaust is mainly for sound.

Problem here is you aren't even safe trying to run a catless dp thinking you only have to worry about it for smog inspections b/c they do random mobile smog inspections all the time here!

Wow, Not here lol

If i get just the DP, even though i'm auto the Modern Peformance one will bolt directly up to the stock exhaust so i can get the catback later if i want right or is it too short?
