Which Gas Grade is Better
#5
Unless you have a higher compression engine, regular gas is what you want. High octane gas does not burn as readily (contrary to popular opinion) and depends on higher compression to complete that task. Regular gas in a high compression engine detonates prematurely and you get knock or ping. High octane gas in an engine designed for regular gas will not completely burn the fuel and it then exits the exhaust pipe raw. This causes your engine to pollute more, can deposit on O2 sensors, and it's more expensive. If your car does not experience detonation and higher octane fuel is not recommended by the manufacturer and is unmodified in the compression department (pistons, shaved heads, decked block, etc.) use regular grade fuel.
