Too often I see people mess up though and add too much noise.

Some 4 cylinder cars here sound like Motorcycles at high rpm which is fine if you like that noise but it is just not my cup of tea.
Mine drones a little on the hwy, but as I mentioned only in 3rd, in 4th is slight and quiet.

I agree that 4cyls are hard to make sound right. I dig the screaming f1 type of scream, but not for this car. It really needs an almost v8 sound but then again that probably wouldn't be right either.

It's funny I can't hear my HHR that much when I start up and drive it, but when one of our crew starts it up, even outside of the garage I can hear it through the whole building.

My wife has an Infiniti FX 35 with a v-6 and stock it sounds good. A little farty but it's a deep fart.

Her other car is a trailblazer ss that sounds normal until your at WOT then it's just perfect.

I know this is hot rod sacrilege but I think it would be cool if you had electronic noise (on the outside) that let you dial in the sound you wanted.

BMW is already doing this on their 4 cyl turbos, but just inside, though the radio.

Anyway if you could do this you could be quiet as a mouse when you wanted to be or raging loud when you felt like it.

Or the new GM electric by pass mufflers on the Vette and Camaro option.

Thanks for all of the insight guys - I'm not looking for a rice rocket exhaust... just would like for the turbo to be a bit more audible. Was simply wondering if since the car would be generating higher levels of boost at lower RPMs if anyone has noticed that the turbo is more audible, and since if there is greater pressure behind the RCV (BPV) it is also more audible.

Just have never owned a turbo setup before - I want to hear it :)

No problem but generally any stock system will remain somewhat quite.

Odds are if you hear a turbo on a modern car it has been modified or it has a part failing.

Note the HHR SS blow off makes more sound on the passenger side and outside the car. If I am driving near a building I can hear it pop with the window open.
