Simple, if "Sarah" and Michelle" truly work for GM how about some contact information? I didn't know about her asking for VIN numbers. That's rather trusting of people. Sure and I click on embedded links in e-mails with no subject line and give out my SSN to anyone who calls and says they are from my bank...

Being paranoid causes stress and there seems to be a lot of stress in this thread. The Customer Assistance agents are NOT out to get you or log your mods so as to deny warranty later on.

Anyone can mod their vehicle anyway they wish. Denial of warranty will occur by the DEALER when these mods cause damage. It's really that simple.

During GM's reorganization, I had my issues with customer service, but seeing the GM rep on these sites shows me that they're trying to get a better "on the ground" understanding of their customers and be of help.

I appreciate it and yes I guess it's a leap to give someone your vin number, but not any more of a leap than putting your credit card down to buy an I-pod.

You know, sometimes things are exactly as they seem, with no sinister motive and regardless of popular opinion, we really don't live in a no fault world.

I don't get it. If you make a conscious decision to mod your car with an aggressive third party tune, change the attitude and spring rates then have a problem with GM if they don't cover the motor, transmission or suspension, then I think that is asking a lot.

I have one car I've changed a great deal (not my HHR), but if something goes wrong, I don't see it as GM's responsibility, any damage I do is on me.

Now if I do change the tune, or mess with the turbo or intake and GM won't cover a headliner problem, then that's another matter, but I don't think that's the issue here and I'd hate to see the GM social media contacts be run off from this or any forum.

IMO

They voided mine because of the intercooler and piping but changed their mind later and rebuilt the engine. They will find any reason to void your warranty now. Starting your car might void it soon.

GM is Not On A Warrantee Denial Witch Hunt - My Experiences:

Hey, although I have no mods other than the GMPP Turbo Upgrade. A lower BOSCH TMAP sensor failed (part of the kit) when my HHR SS was 4 mos out of BTB warrantee, but only 31k on the odo. GM, in good faith, reimbursed the cost of the repair, both parts and labor.

My wife's Olds Bravada had the 5 year 60k BTB and the clutches in the xfer case were binding. A TSB came out that required flushing the case and adding a fluid with modified properties. The dealer said that they were not permitted to cover the cost of the TSB. They suggested I take it up with GM Customer Service. Through the same review process, GM paid for the flush which was more than 50% of the bill. I paid only for the new fluid, which I felt was reasonable, because the car was up for a fluid change maintenance anyway.

If GM was witch hunting creative ways to deny warrantee claims, why would they accommodate customers in situations such as mine?

Take things at face value, don't hypothesize and rely on your experiences for conclusions. Otherwise you may sell yourself short. If you have an issue with your modified HHR, the issue may well be unrelated to the mod. See how things play out at the dealer and/or with GM Customer Service before making those rash conclusions. If I hadn't contacted GM for the issues mentioned above, I'd probably be chastising them instead of praising them.

I don't think GM has a witch hunt going, because if you've been caught in one you'll know it.

I had my new Mitsubishi EVO for 3 days and second gear started grinding then just wouldn't engage. I took it to the dealer and they spent the first two days data logging to make sure I didn't abuse it, the next few days searching forums to see if I raced it and when they didn't find anything, they still refused to fix it.

It took calls to Mistu America and working up the food chain until I found someone that was empowered and would listen and then they finally fixed it.

I wanted a new box, since it was a new car, but they flew in a tech from Japan that rebuilt the complete transmission.

Three weeks later I got the car back and btw the dealer is now out of business.

Keep in mind with the internet all news travels fast and google makes it easy to find, so most companies are very aware that a good user experience makes for good news, a bad one makes for lost sales.

Once again, sometimes things are just as they seem, nothing more, nothing less.

What doesn't make sense to me with most car companies is they don't usually work that close with aftermarket companies, testing and certifing parts that the manufacturer and dealers could sell and install with warranty.

I know I'd go a lot further with my HHR if there was a GM outlet for real performance parts like turbo upgrades, exhaust, coil overs, etc. knowing I wouldn't have to argue about any warranty work and still meet government and emission standards.
