Stage 1 Kit MPGs
Stage 1 Kit MPGs
I was wanting to know from members who have installed the stage ! kit what kind of MPgs you are getting? My reason well I'm a Salesman and I drive a lot!! I burn approx $800 a month now in my stk 08 ss auto. I have ordered the kit and just had a brain fart, is this going to kill my MPGs, and Yes I know it depends on how heavy your foot is. I would like to hear what some of your MPGs are with the kit..
So far I have only about 500 miles on my manual trans SS with the kit. Just a rough calculation shows me that I might have picked up about .5 mpg after the initial "beat on it" period was complete. I doubt if this is going to lower anyone's MPG unless it prompts you to keep your foot in it all the time..........it is a real temptation.
My 5 speed looks to be close to 2 mpg better at steady state 65mph cruise, asscoring to DIC. Its been right on the money every time I've checked. Going on a 1000 mile trip this weekend, one that I have made in the HHR before the kit, so I should have a more accurate idea then.
Cold weather is a killer.Ive been watching the temp gage ...It won't shift to 4th till its 150 deg..and lock up at 170...this can take awhile if your in town...also found the need to feather the foot alot more to knock boost back in cruise to bring DIC milage back up,otherwise it'll sit at 11mpg. Before the kit it was just a matter of a slight lift to settle it down, now it takes a little effort.Getting to cruise speed is a no effort deal though!!!
POST GM Performance Tune upgrade in a 2008 HHR SS Automatic, 1,051 highway miles driving from NC to NJ and back with cruise control set at 71 MPH, it took 2 full tanks of 93 octane gas and I averaged 31.1 MPG per the onboard computer!!!
All I can say is im very impresses, and mostlikely attribute the higher MPG to the slightly higher boost levels (-2 to -5 psi) while the car cruises after the GM Tune. More air mixed in with the same amount of fuel gives a bigger explosion with more horsepower. Kinda like Blacksmith 101, use the bellows to put more air in the fire to create a hotter fire!
