Well, CJ is awesome. I had him walk me through the tune over the phone but I wasn't able to immediately test it out (was stuck at work.) An hour later I took a buddy of mine and showed him the stock tune- he said "not bad"....he's a mustang guy. Then I went back the other way to work w/ the Trifecta activated....SWEET HONEY BISCUITS!! Gauge held steady at 24 psi and was hanging on for dear life. He was impressed, and so am I. That's even before datalogging. Highly recommend it so far.

I guess what I want to know is why did he dial back the automatics? All I hear from this site is how bad and terrible the 5 speed tranny is. One of the reasons I got the auto. Is it just that much worse and why GM dialed it back from the factory too?

This torque curve shows why the GM tune falls off on the top:
It's a way better torque curve, than stock, but still drops off
like a rock, the same as the stock curve, after 5,500rpm:

.
.
This is my torque curve, using HPTuner software:

.
.
This is the stock HHR SS torque curve:

.
.
This is why the HPTuner software is the best...

The auto is best for the track.
The manual is the most fun tranny, for the street.
I'm guessing that too many auto trans blew up with his 'tune'...

I've had my buggy for 5 years now, got it in April of 2009.
Just turned 24,000 miles to, yesterday.
I'm really suprised that my auto trans is still strong, with me
really abusing it daily...
I 'boost' launch it at the track, at 3,000rpm @ 10lbs of boost, with the stock converter,
with a best 60' time of 1.78
Don't know how much more of this, that the trans can take...

I'm thinking that GM took the safe path, with reduced torque, on auto trans,
because of warrantys...

here is the answer i got for the automatics

We've received a lot of complaints about fluctuating/unreliable power delivery in the HHR SS (with auto, manual is fine), so after investigating it and attempting several patches/fixes, Vince ultimately decided to change our production tune model for it so that it is essentially just GMS1 (with or without GMS1 sensors) with select-a-tune to switch back to stock power when desired.

It's mandatory that you use a TurboTech engine mount, when
increasing the power, on an automatic HHR SS...

If not you WILL have unreliable power delivery, for sure,
& really crazy torque-steer issues also...

Thanks for the info. I guess that makes since. I just wish I got a five speed now instead of the auto. Ahh we'll.

you can find a guy that knows his stuff on HP Tuners that can tune it for you at higher boost
just make sure he has a good reputation tuning and he can dial you up to 24 to 25. it was Vinces choice to do it.
Personally i think he should do them higher and then if the guy complains dial him down

allot of it has to do w no informing the guy doing the tuning and getting phone support throughout the whole process
i talk them thru all of it and help if needed and im as close as a phone call
