What does "LNF" stand for, anyway?

I sold my 07 Silver Cobalt SS 2.4L coupe and bought a black 09 SS (THANK YOU SWEET MOTHER OF ACCELERATION!!!) back at the end of Feb. (Pics coming soon). I was wondering what "LNF" stands for. I suppose it has to do with the direct injection (?) and Liquid (something) Fuel (?) I did a little web searching and came up empty. Somone at work asked me and I feel dumb not knowing, since I am the office gear head. Also, it seems that the 2.0turbo is the only direct injection Ecotec engine (?) BTW, I also have a 79 Malibu 2 dr with a 383/ 200r4/ 8.5" 3.73 posi and it is not much faster than the HHR SS (!) and gets half the mileage. I guess that is why GM wants us all driving NEW cars, huh?

Welcome to the SS club. I'll bet you can't wait to get the GM Stage 1 Kit installed. It makes the HHR SS a completely different beast. 290 hp/315 ft.lbs. torque. Full warranty too. Try it, you'll like it...

LNF means 260 HP DI Tubo Ecotech and nothing more.

THe L nmbers is how GM codes their engine options.

The Ecotech are coded L61, LE5, LSJ and LNF. THese are just simply RPO order codes when you order a car or option package.

This is similar to the LS1, LS7 or LS9 codes for the V8 engines

Most of these codes are just for internal GM use but the public pick up on them and the more polular ones get know.

The most famous option code was the Z28 as it was only a option package that GM ended up using as the cars name. WS6 also became a well know suspension performance package with the Pontiac people.

But as for the letters LNF they hold no direct meaning other than a engine option code.

The SS has a F5 suspesion package with is the top level and is not available on all models. This may become a popular name in the future.

It's the model of GM engine line, similiar to LS1, LS2, etc. Probably has more meaning internally with the engineers.

LNF
Ecotec LNF in a Pontiac Solstice

A turbocharged direct injected (redubbed Spark Ignition Direct Injection) Ecotec was introduced in the 2007 Saturn Sky Red Line. Displacement is 2.0 L — 1998 cc (121.9 cu in) — with a square 86 mm (3.38 in) bore and stroke. Compression is 9.2:1 and maximum boost is 20.0 psi, delivering 260 hp (194 kW) at 5300 rpm and 260 lb·ft (353 N·m) of torque from 2500–5250 rpm.[1] Engine redline is at 6300 rpm and premium fuel is recommended. The "Gen II" block is similar to the 2.4 L and also features VVT technology.

Unique LNF features[2] include:

* a twin-scroll turbocharger
* gasoline direct injection
* variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust
* sodium-filled valves
* oil-cooled low-friction cast pistons

This engine is used in:

* 2007–present Opel GT
* 2007–present Solstice GXP
* 2007–present Saturn Sky Red Line
* 2008 Chevy HHR SS
* 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS

It will also be sold and used in:

* 2009 Fisker Karma

Neat article about the power plant: http://www.skyroadster.com/forums/f2...f-engine-3721/

Thank You! I drive a 2007 LT, but, was looking for information on the ECOTEC turbo engine for a swap into an '87 Fiero [currently with Iron Duke 4cyl.]

I thank you for the information and can now look for an engine!
