Won't boost over 13PSI with stage
GMPP Dealer F-up
I can't believe the Courtesy Chevrolet (Phoenix) tech's ignorance and inability to read simple instructions. A fifth grader reading the Stage 1 upgrade instructions would know how to prevent MAP wiring abrasion problems. My Phoenix guy decided that electrical tape would work. Idiot. The Martin Chevrolet (Torrance, CA) tech (Jose) cut out all the butt-joint connectors and soldered them. It only took 9 days for the MAP wiring to rub against the AC compressor to turn a wild into mild (and unsafe) ride. Then he put wiring harnesses on everything - top to bottom - and then flex covering. Car runs strong without a hitch. His last move was to cable tie everything away from everything. Biggest pay-off was that the work to remediate another dealer's work was charged to a secret account and I paid nothing. Life is good. For now. When I process the cell phone photo of the f-up, I'll send it along. Bottom line, you got a problem, look really hard at the lower MAP. I think.
Glad they got it sorted out. Pretty aggrivating to see how badly they messed up the install. Good you found a dealer that could fix it right. I couldn't believe how mine was originally installed without some of the simple instructions followed either... and that was at a supposed GM performance dealer.
Here's the cell phone picture taken by my guy before attacking the abrasion point just left of the crappy electrician's tape job on the harness. Oops make that just to the right to the the four white wires that the upgraded MAP comes with. Rubbed through the tape - game over. If I can snake a lens down there again, I'll send a picture of what it should look like.
So although I risk sounding like a De-De-De; If you have the stage 1 upgrade you should have an HHR that boosts over 13 psi? I've been away from my car for about 3 1/2 weeks while in school and haven't had a chance to really take notice since getting the kit installed.
In my experience, you should be getting boost to around 24-25psi w/ the GM turbo upgrade. I find in my SS that I'll see that anytime I have Comp. Mode on, or I completely disable T/C and ESC modes (hold the button down for 10 secs or so till "ESCoff" shows up). Whenever I'm NOT in either mode then I'll see the stock boost numbers, i.e. max boost would be 20psi, then it'll taper to 15ish psi.
