I just thought of something that surprisingly hasn't been mentioned. You may already do this, but if not, use Dexos approved full synthetic motor oil.

I've been looking into oil types, and seeing the pros/cons of Dexos. I am really liking this brand AMS OIL, and curious if anyone has used it? It meets Dexos Spec standards, yet it is a little more advanced in newer technology, and is royalty free since it's not stamped Dexos.
Any thoughts?

AMSOIL has been around for years. I’m not familiar with it.

I can understand why most people aren't familiar with it. It seems that they are not a retail-type oil, and requires purchase through a product vendor, like Snap-On, and you can't find it in parts stores. I guess apparently, they've relied on word of mouth and independent distributors to do their legwork, and this surely presents a bit of a hurdle for most people. I found there are only 2 vendors on this island. However, it seems to be easy to find vendors on the west coast and also through AZ-CO. So, I'm considering becoming a local vendor, because I would get 25% off the product and also there's no minimum to purchase. Since I have a few friends who aree in the local car club for Saturns, and I hope someday to bring together all the HHR peeps on the island in monthly meets and a all day Sunday circle-the-island beaches cruise (Hey, if the Harley guys and gals can do it, I think so can we!). That will be for next summer. However, I'm really happy to see all the reviews, and I've yet to find any bad ones anywhere.

The wording is interesting: they insinuate it meets the Dexos specs, without being certified as such, by insinuating that if it meets the Peugeot test, that makes it meeting Dexos specs.

"The Peugeot TU3M Wear Test (CEC L-38-A-94), which must be passed to meet the GM* dexos1® Gen 2 specification, determines a motor oil's ability to limit wear. For 100 hours the four-cylinder test engine is subjected to extreme, wear-inducing conditions. AMSOIL OE Motor Oil provided 47 percent more wear protection1 than required by the GM dexos1 Gen 2 specification."

That’s why I’ve never used it. It was the word around the pits on Sunday afternoons, it was snake oil.
That and my sponsors wouldn’t like me using a competitor’s products

It's easy to become an Amsoil retailer. You just have to buy a lot of product. We have one at our local Cruise Shows.

It seems then, Amsoil must not want to pay the fee to become Dexos approved. It is a Pay to play game. I've heard lots of good about Amsoil, but I'll stick to my M1® E.P. 😎

Yes. At $7.75 a quart, I'll stick with my Dexos approved store brand full synthetic that I get for $2.69 (sometimes $2.29!) a quart on sale. I have not found anyone who can explain why brand name oil is better and why I should shell out more than twice as much money.

well this is excellent to hear! Where do you find it usually for the best prices? I only found it at the auto parts store and it was $10/qt. I just don’t know where to look for it I guess. lol
