Gas Mileage
#22
I was watching a special program on the Discovery Channel and it said that A/C lowers fuel economy by roughly 1mpg. They said it was about the same difference as opening a window.

I'm new to the forum and a new HHR owner. Just bought our 07 LS 2.2 automatic and made our first short trip, 3 1/2 hrs roundtrip. Turnpike Interstate all the way. 2 adults w/ 2 kids in car seats, the DIC averaged 32.8 with my wife driving 80mph most of the way w/o the cruise on I'm thrilled, it sure beats the 12-13mpg that our Land Rover gets

My '06 2.2 LT auto is averaging both on the DIC and by calculation 28.6. That is some interstate, lots of local roads and some driving on what Indiana calls a highway. (my driveway could be a highway in Indiana).
So far I've been VERY impressed. I imagine my mileage will get better as I get over being geeked by the HHR's impressive gutsiness and the intake growl of the 2.2. I jumped in the Avalanche right after driving my HHR this past weekend and the HHR's performance is almost as good as the 5.3 in it. Of course the 5.3 has alot more to move but I am still impressed by what 2.2 liters can do.

Any mods...intake...exhaust...seafoam...tune...chips.. ..water for gas.....nitrogen in your tires...turbonators......etc
Please let me know.....it seems that just you and I can get this type of mileage in this forum for any significant length. I always see threads promoting "gimmicks" that help mileage. THEY DON'T!

Nice to see decent mileage can be expected out of my new car. My previous rig was a 2000 Dodge durango 4X4, 4.7l 4 speed auto and tow package equiped on 31's, all time best city mileage was 12.1 . My personal best was 18.4 on a long trip from Eugene to Portland at 65-70 mph. We figured with gas prices well over $4 a gallon, the cost savings in fuel would make most of the new car payment. I drive speed limit plus 1 or 2 use 87 octane tried others no improvement.30 psi tire cold cruize set. a/c on wife don't like getting hair mess up. Normal oil No mods to engine.Go from 3rd to 5th most time. I am 58 so I don't drive it like I stole it.Some milage on this site scare me.My bigest surprize was how good the milage is.
CALLIN ALL COMPLAINERS ABOUT GAS MILEAGE IN A HHR LISTEN UP!
Your vehicle will get 36 mpg on extended higway. If you don't its your fault.
Dosen't matter if you 58 years young (Bob) or exacty half of that (Myself)
Also, I can get 26+ In any city, anwhere, anytime, if the lights are not too long (no extended parking).....
Notice the lack of mods.....lack of BS add-ons and 87 octane, 2.0L SS or 2.2L LS.........
That is all.
