OBD II Diagnostics /Tuning

Hi all,
Thanks for the info.
I'm looking for some help/suggestions on getting some software so that I can hook my laptop to my HHR for diagnostics and possibly future tuning. I have no experience with either so any help or info would be appreciated. Planned mods are a CGS 2.5" Axle-Back Exhaust (would like a header but can't seem to find one???); CGS CAI; 18" wheels and a Trifecta Performance Tune.
Hopefully someone makes an all-in-one software that can do OBD diagnostics, and tuning in the same package.
What is the difference between writing to the ECU (flash) and "calibration" of the DIC (if any)?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

David C.

If you are getting a Trifecta Tune, why but software? Just do it all with the software. But, from all reviews here, Trifecta is a great option. Unless you really know what you are doing, I'd stay with a canned tune like Trifecta instead of software.

Thanks,
I'm thinking two reasons. One, at some point I will probably need to access OBD (if there is tuning software that does this and two, I'd like to learn about ECU tuning. I have a local Trifecta dealer and when I spring for the tune (after exhaust & intake), which might be a little while I will probably ask them about doing a on (my) car tune.
Thanks,

David

Several things:
1) This vehicle uses a CAN bus for the vehicle diagnostics - not the older OBDI/II. So if you have an OBD2 equipment it will not work. You must procure a CAN capable tool/software.
2) I "believe" only the higher-end tech tools like the Tech2 with CANdi will have any access to the vehicle module programming. This information is not something GM lets out into anybody’s hands.
2a) If you find different - I would like to be notified, PLEASE! I'm looking to learn about both of the CAN buses this vehicle has.

You can get programming software at a cost of 2,500.00 and up. Hard to tell what it can do..

check out obd2allinone.com It works with the can system..

Be aware that you can seriously damage your car by loading the wrong parameters into your ECU/PCM. Study up on chip upgrades very carefully before even beginning to consider doing it for yourself.

Thanks for the info, just ordered the OBD2 ALL-In-One and received the factory service manuals today... wow a whole bunch to read. My goal here is not to become a "Tuner" but to:
Have diagnostic capability.
To be able to see what the car/ motor is doing, and
The ability to upload/ download files (purchased "tunes") myself.

Any ability to edit "tunes" myself... well we'll see but no real plans to be come an advanced tuner (already got a job).

Thanks again

I have one of the OBD readers also, but you may see it will take a custom cable to load "Tunes"..

as far as a header, look into cobalt headers they fit 99% of the time without modification.

Thanks Masterchief
99% of the time? Does anyone know of a 4 into 1 direct bolt on header for a 2009 LS 2.2l (LE8)? With my luck I’ll buy the 1% that won’t fit.

Thanks,
David C.
