Supercharge you HHR?
My brother had a great idea about maybe taking a supercharger from an Ion Redline and Putting it on my 2.2L HHR....We are going to try to find a Ion at a local junk yard and see how it would fit....Im hoping for the best if anyone has already tried this please let me know
There's more to it than just bolting on a blower. An engine needs to be staged for forced induction if you want to get any durability out of it. I believe the factory blown ecotecs are destroked down to 2.0 liter displacement and the compression ratio may be reduced some also although off the top of my head I can't remember. Pistons, connecting rods, and crank/bearings usually beefed up as well.
Not to mention that as soon as you bolt up a super charger you become your own warranty on the entire powertrain... and if it worked you are at or beyond the torque limits of the 4T45E automatic transaxle (if so equipped) and likely at or beyond the limit of the stock clutch in a manual transaxle.

ya the ecotecs are 2.0s with some forged internals. Youll need tuning as well. There aint no tellin how much stuff you would destroy just bolting one in.
I had a 07 cobalt ss/sc that was heavily modded. mid/low 13 second car and it blew up lol.

Well if you just put the blower on you'll be ok. A stock 2.2's rod's can handle 250hp. The pistons can handle 300. GM even makes kits for the 2.2's. But there is a 2.2 cobalt that has done this. You just have the advantage of being an 07 so tuning is easy. You'll just need the belt accessories and sensors with the blower. It's possible.
Since it was factory, it should`ve been able to handle anything you threw at it...
I have an Intercooled Turbo Caravan, I`ve gone through my share of head gaskets, trying to raise the boost level, got it at 12psi now, playing it safe
It blew pistons 1, 2, and 3. There is a problem out that alot of ss/sc owners are aware of with piston 4 but that wasnt the case. It was tuned with hp tuners as well and was very agressive. Im not sure really what to pin on it for why it blew. Hard to say with all the stuff I had done.
well once you top out at 300 crank the LSJ's are popping. Just what the pistons can handle I guess. Just like the 2.2's. They get anything over 250 crank torque or power the rods snap. It sucks but thats the way things go. I just wish our bottom ends were built like the imports are. Running 300-400 horses on a stock 4g63 is NICE!
