Hi all, Im just going to put in my 2 cents into this, I read what has happened to Ern, and I am sorry what you went through, but at the same time, Im cracking up laughing because I don't understand what you guys are doing..LOL.

Chevrolet made the HHR's engine the way it is for a reason, Why on earth would you modify what the HHR can handle, putting something into the poor car that most likely it wont support and handle and then risking the poor car's engine or whatever parts you put into it to blow up??????, Isnt that DANGEROUS???? LOL

Look, I may not know anything about car engines. (I should tho, since I'm such a car freak!) but I do know that I'm smart enough to leave an engine alone, and be happy with what my little HHR gives me in power, It's just my opinion...By the way, Wheelie has the 2.4 liter engine and I don't care if he only goes 120 MPH top speed, you cant go that fast anyway, so why do you want to go faster and risk getting a ticket and messing your record up???

I guess some people are just more addicted to speed/power than others.

Wheelie,

I support the 'casual' tune, first you have to open up the airways to let it breathe (cold air/exhaust), then these days it's usually pretty easy to get a better engine management program in there to replace the stock which is usually 'de tuned' to make sure it's well within operating parameters in *all* areas that they ship the vehicle. You're usually safe for a good performance boost unless you're in one of those extreme hot or extreme cold climates, or wacky elevation extremes.

Not to hyjack the thread, but I'd be comfortable doing airways and stock ecu tuning no problem, would consider a turbo to scavange some power... but a supercharger is probably just a bit on the other side of the line for me. (luckily it's too expensive for me to give any real thought to )

Well, count me with wheelie7 as far as the apaprent counter-productiveness of trying to make a particular model of vehicle into something it was not designed to be. If speed and power is your thing, and there is nothing at all wrong with that desire, why buy an HHR in the first place? Get a Cobalt SS. Or a Civic Si, Or a Mitsu Eclipse GT, or a Mustang GT, or Corvette (if you can't afford new Vette the later LT1's and early LS1 's are coming way down in price)? Heck, probably the best bang for the buck tire shredder out there rigth now might be an LS1 F-body (Camaro/Firebird). F-body depreciation is notorious and you can get 'em pretty cheap anymore. They're already real quick, mods are cheap (as mods go) and with the right mods they will run low 12's or better all day long in the 1/4.

I can see taking a new HHR and doing appearance mods and even a few light bolt-ons intake and exhaust, tuning). Just don't expect a fast car (as fast cars go these days). Ern above was just saying that his purpose built (by that I mean designed by factory to be fast) supercharged Cobalt SS with major mods was only running low 13's. Given that, I see no way even a blown HHR is going to do better maybe not even into the 13's. Stock I think they're (2.4 liter HHR) 16 second cars. I might be wrong.

having said all that, I love my HHR! I had a '95 Vette that ran 13's and it was fun but I got tired of it. Imagine that!

My thoughts EXACTLY Lone Ranger! LOL

I can just imagine what a HHR thinks as it's owner thinks about doing a modification..

HHR: ummmm Excuse me Master...in case you have not realized this, I am a CUTE UTE...and not a sports car, I am not capable of going 180 plus MPH as you might want me to go, I was not designed for that kind of speed. so I ask you to please RECONSIDER your decision to alter my performance.

If you truly would like to go fast, may I suggest to purchase my brother CORVETTE to satisfy your desire. I was designed to be more of a cargo vehicle or an TEENYvan to carry your precious children to Chucky Cheese pizza.

Thank you very much...

yours truly, your HHR

LOL!!!!!!!
