Swap the stock MAFS for an aftermarket one?

I haven't done anything under the hood yet besides wipe some of the road grime off, but I was wondering about swapping the stock mass airflow sensor with an aftermarket unit. The one i looked at made the claim for some pretty hefty performance gains, so my skept-o-meter went off. Has anyone done a swap like this, either standalone or as part of an intake upgrade and what dod you think of it? Was it worth it

In the aftermarket world I have seen near zero enhancements about swapping the stock MAF unit. They are made to handle quite a bit of air flow, and by the time you get to maxing one out, you would be running a speed density tune anyway.

I can't tell you how many aftermarket maf sensors we had to trash, because they were junk and not operating correctly.

Moral of the story is, don't waste your money. You don't have any reason to get a performance tune yet, much less think about parts.

Edit: That last part came off as rude, that was not my intention. Bull**** parts like these kind of get me worked up, because I have first hand experience with them, and have first hand experience with the customers who were dumb enough to buy them. Your BS-meter is working correctly.

Thank you and rest assured there was absolutely no offense taken! Right now, these are all "bench racing" dreams as I don't want to monkey with too much at this time due to warranty, need for reliability and diminishing play-money. I'll probably ask some more 'dum-noob' questions from time to time primarily to keep from wasting my cash, if and when it frees up.
