Was thinking of trying a throttle body spacer an my hhr.. I know once you get into major mods their pretty much useless but I'm probrably staying stock for the mpgs. Has anybody ran one and seen improvements anywere??

 

Also what brand is better if any?

 

I ran an Airaid, 1/2 inch spacer with the swirl effect groves, no improvement, just a reduction of my wallet, I still have it on the shop wall under internet stuff that didn't work, I also have a chip that was worthless.

 

A throttle body spacer is usually a 1-inch (25 mm) thick piece of metal that is bolted to the inlet of the throttle body downstream of air flow into the manifold. By changing the airflow, this after-market add-on does claim to be a performance enhancing accessory that can increase an engine's horse power, torque and fuel economy. It functions by swirling or directing the air flow to maximize air volume to the manifold. There is much debate about the veracity of the manufacturers claims for these devices. It seems to me that if a thing like this worked GM would have used it.

In a normally aspirated 2.4, I dont see it doing much. What are you hoping for?
There are heat insulators, adaptors for larger throttle bodies, and ones with nozzles for meth/water injection, they might be worth getting.

 

Save your money, unless you're going for mods like prod mentioned above.

 

Dont see where lengthening the air tract is going to do anything..it flows air..unless you increase the dia of the whole system not much of anything to gain..except pillow talk at Sonic. Spacers are a hold over from the carb days where adding one increased the plenum on the intake and aided in fuel air mixing and allowed a more even flow to all cylinders, also aided in the air velocity below the carb base where all the 'action' happens, gave the carb a better signal to work with...
