I got my IMCO put on WED and couldn't tell any diffrenence in noise level even on the hiway.
Maybe I'm just old and def for all the jet engine noise?

I think you have the wrong muffler. The IMCO 924 is not that loud at all. Like others say, you really have to put your foot into it to really hear it. You can't even hear it when you're on the hwy. Now if you can hear that thing over the intake there's something wrong.

I had RPM do a full cat-back on mine today with the IMCO 924, and I honestly like the sound. They replaced the stock resonator with a performance one also. I want to put an intake on mine also.
The noise I don't mind because the stereo drowns it out.

One note, the 2.2L exhaust system is a 1 3/4 inch system, I had them replace it all with 2 1/4 seeing that is what is coming out of the exhaust manifold.

Iremember the very first day with the IMCo 924 on, and it did have some slight droning at highway speeds. It all went away after a few days, as the inside of the muffler "carbon's up" and that reduces the resonating considerably. I would give it a week of driving and see how it sounds to you then.

If not for just the performance factor, I'd leave it on for the mileage increase! I saw a 2-3mpg jump up after the IMCO was installed.

I hope you'er right about mine too. That would be good. I'll give it a few days and maybe some heavy footed not-too-good-for-decent-MPG-driving It can be fun trying to break it in.

Another poster sugggested it may not be the right muffler. It does indeed seem to be the one I was billed for and the one in all the photos online. So I think I'm ok there. I just find the family quality of the car gone with the drone. Not my cup of tea as I do want to hear things in the cabin besides the radio and the engine.

Heck I have two Corvairs and one sounds like a sewing machine and the other an outboard speed boat! You can guess the one I'm keeping.

Thanks for the post. I will give the Imco a few days....It looks great with the tip I picked out
I'd like to get the better MPG if I can tame the sound. Perhaps with a nice internal blanket of carbon

So does the 2.4 litre car have a bigger exhaust pipe? I thought I remember someone saying 2.25" for the 2.4?

Thanks.

Lemme know (PM me a price) if it gets removed... I might take it off your hands.

Took it off, life is better!

Just running the CGS intake with the outlaw filter now , and life is much better. I cannot belive how much muffler sound actually made it into the vehicle.
I think I can live with the intake as its noise seems to subside once you hit steady state on the highway. The muffler just droned and made me involutarily uneasy. I guess I'm getting old and just want things quiet
Ever since my first car, I respected "silent balls". THe Olds had a 455 w 400 HP, but ran quite silent. Not that the HHR has much in the way of "Balls", but for me quieter is better.

Now I can hear that the outlaw filter I put on is hitting the engine/body when the car turns a certain way. I could not hear the rattling with the Imco.
Tomorrow I'll adjust the CGS. I'm sure I can work out the fitting. It worked fine with the regular filter, so its just a matter of fiddling.

I was going to take a pic of the muffler ( Imco ) on the car, but was sick all weekend ( Hence I posted here a lot ) and today it just came off before I thought about it. Anyway, it looked nice with the chrome tip I have on it.

Anyway it was a fun experiment. I think the intake stays, I know the muffler goes. It will be fine for someone else.
Me, I'm gonna overreact and sound deaden the entire car.

To all those who PM'ed me to buy the muffler, I'll take a pic of the muffler with the tip and post it. It is slick looking and nice sounding in a motor launch kind of way ( To Me, YMMV ).
