Calling all 2.4 owners that have reflashed

The Reader's Digest version:

My mileage blows goats. I have posted, read and re-read all threads regarding this topic. It does seem that 06's are getting better gas mileage than the newer models. Mid to high 15's in ALL city short trip driving with NO lead footing is insane. I do not want to get into all the details of tire pressure, etc etc etc. I have the car set up correctly. I feel confident that it was broken in correctly. It doesnt use any excess oil. I do not warm the car up as I live in warm Calif.

Question to all of you that have had a reflash:

Was this a requested service?
Can I simply ask for an update?
How did the car do after the reflash?

08 2.4 auto
2LT, 17's
1900 miles (thats ALL since 12/12/07!)

Our '06 (auto)just passed 32,000 miles and from 30 - 32 our mileage went up 1 mile per gallon with NO changes in driving or mods. We drive ours hard regardless. The only mod I have done is elliminate the stock filter and fender sock with a Spectre cone filter attached at the side entrance.

Had reflash once after thermostat siezed. They flashed it and away went my HPTuner Tune. Tune redone the next day. On long trips have seen up 34mpg. Usually around 30mpg with my heavy foot.........By the way 2006 bought in September of 05! Year One Baby just hit 40,000!

Reflash doesn't sound like the answer. It sounds like the coolant temp sensor might be bad or for some reason the ECU is not putting the engine into closed loop mode. It sounds like the ECU thinks the engine is perpetually cold and so its commanding a rich mixture all the time, i.e. its staying stuck in open loop.

I would definitely address this with a reputable dealer service dept.

Interesting. My temp usually is up near 200 or so, according to the DIC. The gauge never seems to get past a 1/4 of the way up (I will check this later as I go out again). What I was hoping for in a reflash is an update to any new build or version. Something is not right. I am planning to get it into the dealer at the 2000 mile mark for a look see and some trim issues im having on the rear D/S cargo area. The selling dealer is a LONG way and I have to go to a local one, one that Im unsure of their serv dept. Wouldnt a defective sensor throw a code?

welp later this week i am going to the dealership, and they are going to reflash. service advisor, talking about outside temp etc etc etc. having effectg on it, and improper inflation, and which the state of missouri does have more i believe one would call it more ethonoyl in it... which would cause the milage to be lower. but i do not believe that this 2.4 can only get 19 around town and 25 tops on the hiway. The tires are properly inflated, and there isnt stomp and go.....There must be something that is causing some issues with milage due to the BIG difference between the cars..

Hunter, I agree with HHR4JK. I am literally in the same boat as HHR4JK. Mine is going in to have it looked over and scanned, updated etc. I live in a flat area, I do not hot rod the car. I have driven it hard, light etc etc etc etc. Even made CERTAIN the air in the tires are at 36psi. AC off, sunroof closed, etc. I too, just want to eliminate all possibilities before I accept a 4 cyl car will only get 15-16MPG for me. If this ends up as the case, I might get rid of it and get an SS. Then at least I can be having some fun along with the crappy mileage.
