I have the 5 spd and get about 21-24 in the city depending on how far my foot is in the floor board, the girl friends car is an auto with about 5k more miles than mine and gets about 17-19 in the city. we thought it was because we had some major problems with stalling on and rough idol but the dealer ended up replacing the fuel injectors... who knows...

just a question/// is it more of the 07 with the worst mileage than the 06?

or does any one with 07 2.4 automatic get that 22 plus in town,,, and that upper 29-30 plus on the road.

i might have to be like hip hop... trade for another i have hard time justifying keeping it the reason i got it was the mileage. the sad thing is i traded my extended gmc sierra 4X4 TRICK OUT that was getting almost as good gas mileage around town as my HHR 17 MPG

Jerry, I totally feel you man. I had a sweet 2003 Merc. Marauder 4.6L DOHC and about 370HP that got 15 around town and upwards of 20 on the highway. It was totaled and thats how I ended up with the HHR. I do like this little car but Im not easily accepting the way it is now. I only have 1900 miles on mine and I only had to finance a little as I put all the insurance pay out money down on the HHR. Maybe I should trade up for an SS.

You have to keep it another month due to GM? Im sorry , I dont understand. I agree about missing something. Until we figure it out, we are spending a grip of cash ($3.70 here for a gallon) searching for the answer.

Are you folks going by the dashboard MPG or are you manually calculating it at the pump and figuring in your mileage?

I have an '06 with a few (performance mods) and have been getting 23 city (stop and go ALOT) and close to 29 highway.

My fiance also has a '06 with (no performance mods) and has been getting very similar MPG.

Hey BK,
I am doing the manual calculations as well as DIC comparisons. I have ordered a K&N drop in air filter. Other than that, bone stock. Yours is another example that the earlier HHR's are getting WAY better mileage. I want to know why this is in a bad way.

That is interesting...

I wonder if the dealership would re-flash anyone who has an aftermarket CGS intake?
