engine and trans replaced

Hello, i just got my hhr back with a used powertrain from a donor 2007 HHR with only 37 k miles... mine had 231 k miles on it and my shift solenoids in my transmission were bad.. i found a guy that was selling the whole powertrain from a wrecked hhr... he also installed it in 4.5 hours. The question i had, was i have a trifecta tune so i kept my computer from my car, does any one think i need to retune it ? Thanks

What ECU is in it now? What VIN is it programed for?

My guess is just plop your tuned ECU in and see if it works, however the crankshaft sensor will need to be re learned.

Hey donbrew, the ecu is the same, Vince from trifecta said it doesnt have to be reflashed or anything..... you said the cranshaft sensors have to relearn? Would i have harder shifting until that happens??

You should have a CEL. If your shop knows what they are doing they did the relearn, it's simple but requires the correct computer thingamajig. That's why I asked.

If they plopped a new ECU in with the new engine, and then you switched the ECU out with your old "tuned" ECU, you would need to relearn it.

Your post kind of sounded like "i kept my computer from my car" to later install it.

Hard shifting could be a lot of things! TBI, VVT, TCM &etc. Depends alot on what they transferred and the condition of the parts.

There have been a lot of posts about people shorting the TCM out whilst messing with the fuse box, which you have to do to R&R the motor/trans.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Could be wiring too.

hey guys, just a update.. so i have 8k miles on my powertrain, havent had any issues, no CELs etc.. works great. my old engine with 230k was fine btw, never any CELs on that either, great little engines.. if any of you are interested the guy installed the engine and trans for $1,100.00. thats including the engine and trans with that price.. i think it was a great deal..
