GMPP Intake, CARB and warranty questions
GMPP Intake, CARB and warranty questions
I just bought my 08 HHR LT2, so I contacted GM performance parts re: the GMPP CAI for CARB number. GM answered right of way and said it was CARB approved. Re: warranty issues I had to call GM as my local dealer said it would void the warranty on the emissions on the vehicle. GM advised the part has a 12 mo. 12K mile warranty if purchased at a GM authorized dealer and installed by a GM authorized dealer and it would not effect the bumper to bumper warranty. However if the veh, was damaged by the GM CAI, GM would not authorize any repairs or be responsible for any damage. Anyone had any experience with their dealer regarding the GMPP CAI and voiding the warranty. Sounded like its covered as long as the CAI doesnt cause any problem on the car.
The only aspect of a warranty issue is the direct result from a non-stock part being used. Example: if you change the springs lowering your HHR and the radio fails there is no connection between the two items. The alignment is off and you have rapid tire wear or handling problems you are on your own. Only damage or failure caused by the non-stock part is effected. An intake manafold only directs air flow into the head, so issues related to airflow should be the only concern. Now, if a failure results from improper installations (i.e.: leaks, stripped bolts or sensors) then it is not the manufacturers fault. There will be no manufacturers warranty, but if the install is bad and the dealer did the work, you have a dealer NOT manufacturers issue.
Only the failure of a manufactures part or workmanship is under warranty not the effects of a non standard part.
Although a factory sold and dealer installed part is or may be approved, they carry their own warranty. Only items installed at the time of manufacture and some dealer accessories will carry the full term warranty. Mechanical, performance or engine parts are NOT accessories.
Remember, the dealer is not owned, operated or controlled by the manufacturer.. State and federal laws (Sherman Act) prohibit a mfg from controlling dealer actions related to consumer transactions. Only those transactions with consumers that are on behalf of the mfg are in their control, but the dealer is still an independant business that can tell the mfg to go fly a kite if they don't want to help.
