I like the idea about changing it every 2 or 3 years , that can't be so bad considering the price . I have a buddy who owns a powder coating shop , I'll have to ask him if he can alumicote it or powder coat it. A baked on finish . I don't know if anyone powder coats mufflers or if its going to add life to it so I have to give him a call to see what he thinks .
Thanks Guys ,
Mike.

just wondering. what's the big hype aboot this IMCO muffler? how come you don't like to use a flowmaster or magnaflow? if you keep your cat n resonator on, it's not very loud. it's actually nice and deep. that's what i had on before i removed my cat.

was just interested.

Cool. Thanks. But that doesn't answer my question. Why do you guys like this muffler so much?

Does the IMCO muffler rust out ? It looks to me like its quality is less than a stock muffler and looks too much like a cheap muffler prone to rust . I live near Chicago and the streets get salted . The CGS muffler looks to be much more durable . I'm looking for quality and sound , not a cheapo that will rust in 2 yrs . . Any advice ?
Mike.
Welcome to the forum. Please post pictures when your HHR arrives.

It's cheap and makes a cool sound, no other reason, for me anyway.

Last year, Mike from SoCal tested several mufflers and found the IMCO to have the right amount of back pressure for optimum performance. Some that he tested were too little, some too much. He said that the Ecotech engine is sensitive to both the mufflers and the intake (if you do a search, some of the people here have tried to make intakes that threw codes).

This whole forum makes me wonder what kind of muffler I have!! I never checked the name, I told them I want chrome..and no Honda sound. It is nice and throaty, no lawnmower sound. But that is exactly what I told the salesman, No riceburner sound, real shiny, I love it, although loud. Just tell them exactly what you want. BTW, noone mentions chrome, why is that? Is there something I should know?

It's just a cheap muffler. One of the forum members used to run an accessory shop before he sold his HHR and claimed to have done a lot of testing on mufflers and the IMCO was the "best". Same for the CGS intake. I suspect that the hype was due more to the ability to secure an order for the mufflers and intakes from no-name manufacturers a lot easier and cheaper than going with the big names.

GM Performance Parts has a new catback that's full stainless and made by Borla, arguably one of the best manufacturers of bolt-on aftermarket exhaust systems. My opinion is replacing the stock stainless exhaust with anything aluminized or plain galvanized steel is just pointless and asking for trouble.
