it shouldnt be a problem. The shop will just make an adapter, or stretch part of the muffler's opening. They shouldnt charge any more for this either. Good luck and get some pics when its done!

Does the IMCO muffler rust out ? It looks to me like its quality is less than a stock muffler and looks too much like a cheap muffler prone to rust . I live near Chicago and the streets get salted . The CGS muffler looks to be much more durable . I'm looking for quality and sound , not a cheapo that will rust in 2 yrs . . Any advice ?

Hows about the magnaflow cat back? Or the Gibson C/B? I have been doing research over the web and from prior experience the magnaflow cat back is an awesome product. And why just do the muffler? Aren't all the performance gains produced by changing the "kink" bend factory piping with mandrel bent piping? I will always be a student to the modifying catergory of my cars. Opinions and comments are welcomed. Thanks guys and girls

The factory setup for the 2.4 engines use a 2.5" piping from the cat to the axle, the chokes down to a 2.25 and out to the factory turtle. The piping itself is mandrel bent as opposed to "crush" or "wrinkle" bent. Using something like a Magnaflow or Gibson Catback would yield a thicker piping, usually chrome, and larger diameter. These systems are very expensive (500-800 range) and are a good buy for someone that doesn't have a local speed shop to do work or wants a warranty for their exhaust (which is good with high rusting chances).

Point well taken. There's no warranty on the muffler that everyone raves about on here? What is that one made of? A mild steel or something? All the speed shops round here are theives pretty much with their labor rates

The IMCO may offer some kind of factory warranty on rust if the muffler develops some problems. But it has to go back to the factory. Same with other aftermarket cat-backs. But they have better performance gains and a much more refined sound.

If engines NEEDED backpressure then why do top fuel dragsters making over 1000 horses run open headers??? 'nuff said? Yeah, I think so!
Ah.........no. That is a completely inacurate comparison. A HUGE blower and serious over-drive of it are nowhere near a street car's running range. Not just "open" but zoomie headers are only used on blower cars...again because scavenging is not needed because the blower and big valve over-lap pushes the exhaust out. Race cars don't have to run on the street for thousands of miles either. Blow some freezing air back up that open header after the engine is shut-off....see what that does for you

I'm not saying that you need backpressure, but it is going to happen just because of the fact that you need to run it out from under the car. It is also a rather relative thing....it increases with RPM. A lot more air has to move through the same space, but how often do you really run at max RPM?

BTW, 1000 HP is very conservative. You can make that with-out a blower and using gasoline.

IMCO mufflers and CGS intakes have been shown to decrease power over stock exhaust and intake. Use only if you're wanting to show off the engine or get a louder exhaust tone.
