Just do what I did.....

Rip everything from the cat out. Put in a Thrush where the resonator was and you'll have all the sound you can handle!! (And REALLY need that 1500 watt system!!) I was heard from blocks away.

It was too loud for me and the local law enforcement departments so I added a couple resonators right before the tips. Now I'm only heard a couple blocks away and don't have to turn the stereo past 40! (Unless I wanna!) Still have a great sound and I did get a noticable performance increase.

BUT, we are driving a station wagon gang, not a rocket. We ain't ever gonna break any speed records.

I have it all on my ride. I switched the turtle muffler for an IMCO, but put a 'y' pipe in front of it. It goes to the other side of the car into a header collector. I have another collector with a matching exhaust tip. If I connect it like that, then the exhaust goes through the straight pipe. If I bolt in a plate with 3 holes that match the collectors, then the exhaust only goes through the muffler. And if I use a plate with a few holes in it, then it is slightly louder with a little less restriction.

As for sound, it is pretty loud without the muffler. Not so bad in the car (it is pretty well insulated) unless you have the passanger rear window down.

I also remember the old days when resonators were at the back of the exhaust (or even incorporated into the chrome tips).

In what, an English vehicle?
Never ever saw the resonators first, english, Jap, Korean, or american and yes I am an old guy from the muscle car days. If the muffler was in the back, there was no resonator.
