Question How to reset ECM after a performance Mod.

I'm getting ready to plumb up a different air intake, and would like some advice on resetting the ECM.

Thanks!

Its one of those easy peasy things, just disconnect the negative battery cable and then have a cup of coffee(should be disconnected for about five minutes), then reattach it and you'll be good to go.

The computer will have to relearn you shift points and driving style so it might seem a bit "off" for a bit, but then it'll be back to normal with some driving around.

Gotta get in the habit of giving rentals a "lobotomy" Kev, if it seems like it was built minus the engine, just pull the negative cable for a few minutes and then drive it like you stole it. The next guy will pee himself when it takes off from a light.

" resetting the ECM."

Fuse box under the hood..... Pull fuse #41 for the ECM. About 15 minutes or however long it takes to wipe down and quick detail the engine compartment...... I mean, while you are there, may as well be doing something....

That's the difference between resetting and reprogramming Jay, resetting it is like rebooting your computer, reprogramming is like adding a software upgrade. Dealers do tend to overcharge for reprogramming the ECM, nice dealers like mine do it free of charge.

Thanks Greybeard, completely spaced on fuse #41, call it old age.

Fuse #43 is the TCM if you have an auto..... Not sure how much the tranny "learns" but that would also be suggested for an auto......

By pulling those fuses you just clear those two modules...... radio and other stuff stays unaffected.
