Great idea mrarff, you might only be seeing 4-8 degrees but the cooler the intake charge the better. One thing I can't understand is that most of the intake kits I've seen just pull air in from the "woolly worm" hole in the fender, not from the outside. They might look cool, but they are just pulling in hot under hood air, in my mind that negates some of the "advantages" of the assorted intake kits. But maybe its just me being an oldish semi-geezer who remembers the Ram-Air Pontiac's fondly.

The hole in inner fender leads to the outside under the fender. Which is pretty well sealed off from engine bay.

What I was referring to sleeper is the type where the filter is just located next to the engine and not taking outside air in through the "woolly worm" hole. The CGS intake in the picture is what I'm referring to, not to pick on those folks by any means, this just illustrates what I was trying to describe. Intakes like the K&N seem to be better in my mind because they channel outside air in rather than relying on under hood air which can be at elevated temps.

10-4 clear now.

& remember Ram Air Ponchos'

Airaid makes a decent (looking) set-up that gets air rammed at it thru the grille & over the rad.

Thumbs up Compliment

Thanks for the compliment 843de. The idea of insulating the outside of the box did cross my mind, but I figured it would look like "Ghetto Engineering".As for the "wooly" I think it makes it look cool. I've seen Nascar teams do things like this. I'm thinking about wrapping the entire intake tube, but I like the color and it is HI-Temp engine paint.

You're welcome mrarff, its good thinking on your part. I was always taught that the cooler the intake charge the better, you might not feel 4-8 degrees cooler in the seat of your pants, but its a good start.

FWIW: I do think the GMPP & the K&N are the nicest set-ups..
I was telling another member that if I did a set-up I would insulate also.. Just makes sense..

I'd say you're a semi geezer like me SS fan. You really don't graduate to full geezerhood until you find yourself shouting "who are you people, and where are my pants?" in crowded restaurants. As far as cowl induction goes, I think it would work, and you could get really tricky and use this setup from the good old days. The parts are available as reproductions, you'd just have to do some sheet metal fab work, or cut up a donor hood.
