Lifter issue

Hi folks, just have one question about my 2011 HHR 2.4, I have a very loud rattle under the hood and believe that it is my lifters. If this is so, is it easy to fix? Doesn't happen all the time, but enough to drive me crazy Please, enlighten me. Have a great evening. Dan Bowles

Welcome, to the site, remove the valve cover and inspect the lifters and the timing chain possibly the front guide has broken

Check the rear mount for the air filter.
Lifters are doubtful, we have rollers, not tappets. Built this century.

I agree with Oldblue, probably timing chain. Do NOT crank the engine until this is diagnosed.

^^^ This. ^^^

You have a rolling booby trap. Don't try to start it, don't even crack it, don't even let a mechanic crank it, until you know what the problem is.

We even had a member here who tried to heed this advice and the tow truck driver decided to ignore the owner and to try to start it and crashed the valves.
