ls4 swap???

hey guys a buddy of mine just totalled his 07 grand prix gxp it was hit in the back so the motor is untouched. It has an ls4 in it and its a really fast car and fun car to drive and i would love to swap that motor into my hhr. he offered to GIVE the motor to me so i can swap it into my hhr but i have alot of concerns about the swap. my main question is has anyone done.

I am not conidering this swap to be done soon or at all but im curiouse to see if anyone has done it and does any one have any insite on the swap

It sounds like it would be more work and expense than it would be worth imo. The Grand Prix is pretty wide and they acually had to shorten the crankshaft 13mm for it to fit in the Grand Prix. It is tight inside the engine bay of the Grand Prix and I'm sure you wouldn't even have enough clearance for everything in there. I almost bought a GXP before I bought the SS. Besides for low end torque production(idle- 2500 rpm), the staged LNF has it beat. Torque steer was a lot worse in the GXP than the SS. I've raced a couple of GXP's and I haven't lost yet. They will jump out in front but by the time we pass 30-40 mph, I always pull around them. A more reasonable swap would be the LNF. Although, any engine swap in the HHR is going to be expensive as hell, enough to buy an SS!!!

In my opinion the swap would cost you 5,000-10,000 depending on how much of the work you could do yourself. You have to look at custom mounts/axels/tune not to mention getting the computer, HHR components, and engine to "talk" to each other. The SS with the turbo upgrade would be just as much fun (and almost the same amount of power).

SO. . . do the SS and sell me the engine/trans for my pontiac fiero!!!
